Introduction of Buiya Dance ( Folk dance of Arunachal Pradesh)
Buiya is a popular folk dance form that originated in the beautiful northeastern part of Arunachal Pradesh. The tribe under Buiya’s traditional dance form is known as the Digaru Mishmis. Digaru Mishmi dance is performed by women and men. Usually held after a big party or family gathering, Buiya dance is a fun dance that brings people together. Buiya dance is performed in many festivals such as Tazampu, Duiya, and Tanuya.
This traditional dance attracts all the international festivals in the province. The unique design combined with the rhythm of the various instruments makes the buiya folk dance an exciting show you can watch.
All of these celebrations are for the prosperity and good health of the artist and his family. The folk dance is also performed after a family-organized party to entertain the people. Both men and women dance, in a concert hall, on one side of the house from front to back. Although there is no set age for dancing, children and adults do not play a significant role in the dance, but rather, they are spectators.
Buiya Folk Dance Performance

Attire at Buiya Dance
Buiya dance does not have a specific dress code. Traditional tribal dress is what artists seem to wear. Men wear a sleeveless jacket ( sleeveless coat) at the top and a belt at the bottom. The look is completed with a turban on the head and some jewelry on the neck and wrists.
The woman wore a long wrap skirt and blouse. Another small skirt is wrapped over a long skirt. A side bag is hung over their shoulders. Many types of jewelry seem to adorn the look.
