Kartik Ram Ji
Kartik Ram was born in the year 1910 in Bhanwarmal village of Bilaspur district (MP). He used to participate in his uncle Makhanlal’s Gammat Nacha Parti as a child artist and he was very well appreciated. Once upon a time, Raja Chakradhar Singh saw him as an innings at the Ganesh fair. The child’s position was as dense as it was beautiful. Raja Saheb made a monthly stipend of 25 rupees and immediately selected him for the court and made arrangements for food and drink.
His initial training took place under Pt. Shivnarayan. He later trained in Kathak dance under Jayalal, Shambhumharaja and Lachhumaharaja. He had a keen interest in folk dances which enhanced the creativity of Kathak dance. Kartik ramji was a dependent of the Raja of Raigarh Who arranged for his education in music and dance for which great artists like Jayalal and Achchan maharaja were appointed.
He learned laziness from Achchan Maharaj and trained with speed from Shambhu Maharaj, while he learned sentiment from Lachhu Maharaj. Karthikram Ji got the first fame at the Music Conference in Allahabad, there was a boom in Raigad Durbar, and Kartik Ram Ji became famous in the whole country. Once again, at the same Indian music festival in Allahabad, Raja Saheb, accompanied by Karthik Ram Ji, brought Kalyanadas Ji to the stage and also associated himself with the tabla.

Pt. Kalyan Das
Pt. Kalyan Dasji was one of the great dancers of the country and was born on 10 October 1921 in Nawapara village of Janjgir district. His father Kushal Das-Mahanta was a musician himself and was proficient in playing Sarangi. Kalyan Das Ji was interested in dance education since childhood and his voice was also very sweet. Incidentally, once the child Kalyan Das was seen dancing by King Chakradhar Singh in the Saargarh Darbar, and he was so impressed that he demanded Kalyan Das from his father-in-law and made him a disciple.
Kalyanadas came to the court after Anujaram, Karthikram, and Firatu Maharaj. He got the education of Kathak dance from Pandit Jayalal Maharaj Ji, Shambhu Maharaj Ji (three taal and beauty), Narayan Prasad Ji (one tal), Achchan Maharaj Ji (Bhava), Lachhu Maharaj Ji (Abhinaya), etc. Gurus. And he took the higher education of tabla from Nathu Khan and received the training of Khyal, Thumri, Tappa, and Ghazal from Haji Mohammed.

कार्तिक राम जी और पं. कल्याण दास जी की जीवन-यात्रा जो की आधुनिक भारतीय नृत्य के पिता है। जिनहोने कथक नृत्य के इतिहास में अपना बहुत बड़ा योगदान दिय। आज हम उन्ही की जीवनी के बारे में जानेगे।
कार्तिक राम जी
श्री कार्तिक राम का जन्म वर्ष 1910 में बिलासपुर जिले (म.प्र) के भंवरमल गाँव में हुआ था। वे अपने चाचा माखनलाल की गम्मत नाचा पार्टि में हिस्सा लिया करते थे बतौर बाल कलाकार के रुप में और उन्हें भोत सराहा जात्ता था । एक समय की बात हे जब राजा चक्रधर सिंह ने उन्हें गणेश मेले में पारी के रूप में देख लिया। बालक पद चलन उतना ही सघन जितना की वह सुन्दर था । राजा साहब ने 25 रूपये मासिक वजीफे और तुरंत उन्हें दरबार के लिए चुनकर खान-पान की व्यवस्था कर दी।
उनका प्रारंभिक प्रशिक्षण पं शिवनारायण के अधीन हुआ था। उनके बाद में उन्होंने जयलाल, शंभुमहाराज और लच्छुमहाराज के तहत कथक नृत्य में प्रशिक्षण लिया। उन्हें लोक नृत्यों में गहरी रुचि थी जिसने कथक नृत्य की रचनात्मकता को बढ़ाया। वह रायगढ़ के राजा के एक आश्रित व्यक्ति थे। जिसने संगीत और नृत्य में अपनी शिक्षा की व्यवस्था की जिसके लिए जयलाल और अच्छनमहाराज जैसे महान कलाकारों को नियुक्त किया गया।
उन्हें अच्छन महाराज से लास्य सीखा एवं शंभू महाराज से गति की तालीम ली जबकि उन्होंने लच्छू महाराज से भाव पक्ष सीखा । कार्तिकराम जी को पहली प्रसिध्दि इलाहाबाद के म्यूजिक काँन्फेंस में मिली वहां रायगढ़ दरबार की धूम मच गई, और कार्तिक राम जी पुरे देश में प्रसिद्ध हो गये। एक बार फिर राजा साहब ने इलाहाबाद के उसी आखिर भारतीय संगीत समारोह मे कार्तिक राम जी के साथ कल्याणदास जी को मंच पर उतारा गया और स्वयं तबले पर संगति भी की।

पं. कल्याण दास
पं. कल्याण दासजी देश के महान नर्तकों में से एक थे और उनका जन्म 10 अक्टूबर, सन् 1921 को जांजगीर जिला के नवापारा गांव में हुआ था।उनके पिता कुशलदास-महन्त स्वयं संगीतज्ञ थे और वे सारंगी बजाने में प्रवीण थे। कल्याण दास जी का बचपन से ही नृत्य की शिक्षा में रूचि थी ।और उनकी आवाज भी बड़ी मीठी थी।
संयोग से एक बार बालक कल्याणदास को राजा चक्रधर सिंह ने सांरगढ़ दरबार में नाचते हुए देख लिया,और वे इस कदर प्रभावित हुए कि अपने ससुर से कल्याण दास को मांग कर उसे शिष्य बना लिया। कल्याणदास दरबार में अनुजराम, कार्तिकराम, और फिरतू महाराज के बाद आए। उन्हें कथक नृत्य की शिक्षा पं.जयलाल महाराज जी,शंभू महाराज जी (तीन ताल एंव खूबसूरती), नारायण प्रसाद जी (एक ताल), अच्छन महाराज जी (भाव), लच्छू महाराज जी (अभिनय), आदि गुरुओं से मिली। और उन्होंने नत्थू खाँ से तबले की उच्च शिक्षा ली और हाजी मोहम्मद जी से ख्याल, ठुमरी , टप्पा और गजल की तालीम प्राप्त की ।
मुनीर खाँ, कादर बख्श और अहमद जान थिरकवा से तबले के कठिन कायदे सीखें। राजा साहब उन पर खास ध्यान दिया करते थे। नृत्य सम्राट कल्याणदास को पहली बार 1936 में इलाहाबाद म्यूजिक काँन्फेंस में उतारा गया।इसके बाद मेरठ, बरेली1934, रायगढ़1942, दिल्ली1944, खैरागढ़ आदि के अखिल भारतीय संगीत सम्मेलनों में भाग लेकर पुरस्कार प्राप्त किया। 1964 में वे इंदिरा कला संगीत विश्वविद्यालय खैरागढ़ में प्रोफेसर नियुक्त हुए। मध्यप्रदेश के संस्कृति विभाग से शिखर सम्मान प्राप्त कल्याण दास ने अपने अंतिम दिनों में भाव नृत्य नाम का एक सुंदर ग्रंथ भी लिखा।
